Fiat to build Chrysler Sebring in U.S. instead of Italy

Fiat S.p.A.'s Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne has decided to shift production of the new Chrysler Sebring to U.S. from Italy because of difficulties to boost productivity in Italy, Corriere della Sera reported today, without saying where it got the information.Marchionne originally had planned to make the new model in Italy, the Italian daily said.Under Fiat's five-year plan announced in April, Fiat and Chrysler will manufacture vehicles for each other.Fiat planned to assemble the next-generation Sebring mid-sized sedan, due in 2013, in Turin alongside the Alfa Romeo Giulia, sources told Automotive News Europe in April.Fiat took a 20 percent stake in Chrysler Group in June 2009.
